Nouns and la
Name things with -o and use the one article la.
Every noun ends in -o: libro, tablo, ĉambro, ĝardeno. La never changes: la libro, la ĝardeno. Skip la when you mean “some/a”: Sur la tablo estas libro — there is a book on the table.

- Tio estas libro. La libro estas sur la tablo. That is a book. The book is on the table.
- Kaj kio estas en la ĝardeno? And what is in the garden?
- Kato. Kato estas besto, ne meblo. A cat. A cat is an animal, not furniture.
Kio vs kiu
Kio asks for an unspecified thing: Kio estas tio? Kato. Kiu asks for a person or a specific one: Kiu estas la instruisto? Ana.
