Lesson 22 / 24
Work and professions
Name jobs with -ist and -ul, and talk about the working day.
-isto is a person of a trade or ideology: instruisto, kuracisto, programisto, esperantisto. -ulo is a person characterised by the root: junulo (a youth), riĉulo (a rich person), malsanulo. Workplace is often -ejo: oficejo, lernejo, vendejo. I work in… is Mi laboras en… I work as… is Mi laboras kiel… Free time is libertempo.

- Kie vi laboras? Where do you work?
- Mi laboras en oficejo kiel programisto. I work in an office as a programmer.
- Ĉu la laboro estas malfacila? Is the work difficult?
- Iam jes. Sed post la laboro mi havas libertempon. Sometimes yes. But after work I have free time.
-isto is not the same as -anto
lernanto is one who is learning (right now, by role of the verb). lernisto would be a professional learner — almost never what you mean. Keep -anto for the participle person and -isto for the trade.
